Treat Yourself to a Sound Therapy Experience

Sound therapy is progressively becoming more and more popular. It as a form of healing relaxation therapy. One of my random adventures, often includes attending a sound therapy session approximately every other month or so. The Collective Studio is currently my favorite places to go for this form of therapy.

I would like to encourage you to give sound therapy a try.

Why Sound Therapy?

Sound Therapy is perfect if you’re in the mood to have a pretty cool, unique experience, all while achieving tranquility. Also, if you want to improve your sense of well-being, but you’re not in the mood for any strenuous activities, this may be the perfect outlet for you. It’s perfect for unwinding after a long day. I highly recommend it!

The Location.

The experience may take place in a dimly lit room, or even at the beach. Sometimes these sessions are held in a pool, where you not only hear beautiful sounds but have a sensation of floating.

The Equipment

You will often be given pillows and a mat to lay on. Depending on the venue, you may also receive eye covers and headphones. If it’s a beach-side venue, or in a pool, then you will usually be supplied with headphones and possibly eye covers. A floating mattress if it’s a pool venue. A mat & pillows if it’s in a dimly lit room.

The Session Begins…

The sessions often start with light stretching, but only for a few minutes. It then progresses to laying on your back with pillows and a blanket. You then begin breath-work, to further relax, (taking slow deep breaths in and out). Once the breath-work is complete, the instructor then begins to play different types of instruments that creates unique sounds that omit different frequencies.

The Benefits of Sound Therapy

Stress and anxiety reduction: The combination of a dimly lit room with candles and angelic sounds, how could anyone not succumb to its relaxation effects.

Pain Management: the frequencies generated have a way of naturally reducing the levels of pain perception.

Improve Sleep: I can’t tell you the many times, I’ve heard and seen people go straight to sleep in these sessions. However, I do believe sleeping through it, is not ideal (especially if you snore, then it’s just rude). Because you would be missing out on the whole experience. However, after, you will definitely be ready for bedtime.

Physical and emotional healing: The therapeutic sounds have been said to promote a psychotherapeutic release of repressed or suppressed emotions. It is great for individuals who may have had emotional trauma or even for those who are grieving.

Promotes optimist: After every session you will just feel as though you are taking care of yourself and will naturally feel grateful.

Instruments often used

Singing sound bowls: These bowls often have a grounding effect. They are usually either Tibetan bowls or Crystal singing bowls. They have the ability to bring your thoughts in the space of here & now. If you are regretting the past, or anxious about the future, sound bowls will capture those thoughts & bring them to the present. Which ideally, is where you should always be.

Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, but Today is a gift. That is why it’s called, The Present – Eleanor Roosevelt

Rain Drums: Ever enjoy the sound of heavy rain on your windowsill, or rooftop? Well, this genius creation yields the sound of heavy rain pouring and flowing everywhere. As if you’re laying down in the middle of a rainstorm, without getting wet. Just Blissful.

Tuning Forks: Tuning forks are used specifically for the frequencies they produce. These frequencies are specifically designed for healing.

Drums: Are often played slowly. They are great for meditation & will keep you focused on the sound it creates.

Chimes and bells: The sound of wind chimes will instantly transmute you to a fairy tale land. The sound of a wind chime will remind you of every beach-side experience you may have had before.

Native American Flute: The beautiful sound of a native American flute will promote the feeling of well being

A human voice: Depending on the talents of the sound therapy coordinator, singing might be on the menu. One of the pretties voices I’ve heard was during sound therapy. Her voice was light and whimsical. She unfortunately retired.

Gongs: Lastly, Gongs are not alarming but instead, are used to gently bring out of a meditative state. Directing your thoughts back to consciousness or your present surroundings.
