Press-On Nails. My New Obsession!!!

Some people find going to nail salons therapeutic. I don’t. Especially when it comes to getting a manicure. I usually find myself hyper-focused on what the nail technician is doing and resorting to micromanaging every little they do. By the end of the appointment, I’m mentally exhausted and I’m sure they are too.

The biggest problem I have with salon nails, (whether it be gel, dip, or acrylic), is that they don’t last! I only get to have perfect pretty nails for maximum wear-time of about two weeks. 2 weeks!!! So, after two weeks, I would either go back & pay to endure the anxiety producing, micromanaging session again! Not to mention spending an additional $70 to $130!! Either that or walk around with chipped nails….

I know you’re wondering what I could possibly be micromanaging. Well, I always have to first object, then insist they refrain from using a drill on my actual nails. Which over time creates very thin & brittle nails. Then I again have to wave off the cutting my cuticles, because it usually results in nonstop hangnails. Then I’m always paranoid that they will cut my toenails too short, worried that it may result in an injury.

So, instead of relaxing with my eyes closed, I’m staring at them. I’m sure they also feel my intense stare as they looking down at my nails. It’s alot!! Also, I don’t want them to use a cheese grater on the bottom of my feet. So, I’m sure you would agree with me when I use the term micromanage.

One weekend, I was graced with a random visit from my little sister Aziza. She’s quite innovative and always in-the-know of fashion and trends. When she arrived, I instantly noticed she had the most beautiful set of nails. I complimented her and was shocked to find out that they were just press-on nails. They were prettier than most salon nails I’ve seen before! She enlightened me that these nails often last her about 2-3 weeks, if prepped and applied properly.

Once hearing this I insisted on trying out a set for myself.

I sat on my bed and watched her show me how to apply these nails and was thrilled that they actually looked amazing! I however didn’t want to get ahead of myself. The most important test would be, to see how long they actually lasted. Shockingly these press on nails lasted exactly 2 weeks!!

I’ve previously tried using press-on nails before, but they have only ever lasted 1-2 days. Popping off right when I needed them the most!! So, I stopped using them. Now I have learned that not only I was doing it wrong, but I was also using the wrong products.

2 weeks was the exact amount of time nail salons often last me. So why would I ever go to in for a manicure, again. This process was faster, in my own home, the options were endless, and NOW they lasted 2 weeks!

I will never need to endure a manicure in a nail salon, ever again.

So, in case you want to try it out for yourself. Here the process & the products. I can almost guarantee, will change your life.

The Process.

This part is very important. Don’t skip anything. I’ve already tried different shortcut renditions. Nothing can be skipped!

1 . First, she uses cuticle remover. It’s a liquid that removes the cuticle without creating hang nails. You just put it on for 1 minute and wipe your cuticles away!

2 . Next she lightly buffs the top of my nails, with a nail file, to gain traction, when applying the press-on nails

3 . Then she drills/buffs in the inner part of the press-on. Once again to create traction.

4 . The next thing she does is rub alcohol on each of my nails. This is to dehydrate and remove any potential slip.

5 . Glue is then placed on both my nail and inside the press-on. She then presses them together, while holding in place for a few seconds

6 . Clear gel nail polished is then used to give the appearance of a professional manicure.

The Products

Here are the products my sister uses. Some are more important than others.

1 . Nails are from Shien. Yes Shien! I buy a full set of nails from Shien for about $1 to $2!!!

2. The cuticle remover. A quick & easy application.

3 . Then there’s the glue. This is the best glue ever! There is nothing on the market like it. Once you put it on the nail, it is no going to move.

4 . The gel nail polish combination comes with a base (which i don’t use), a top coat, and a cuticle oil.

5 . Lastly the gel lamps, that I alternate between depending on my mood. Mini Lamp or Wand Lamp

So if you are also tired of being super dependent on nail salons, or just want to spend less money, maybe try press-on nails. You may still need to go to the nail salon ever now and then, especially for a pedicure. However now, at least you can minimize how often you have to go.

Also, all the cool nail design possibilities are fun! The arts and craft of it all will be very relaxing and therapeutic, if not addicting!!!
